As a part of the Mental health & psychosocial support professional development in Malawi project, which aims to increase the capacities at the two top layers of the MHPSS intervention pyramid (e.g., focused person-to-person and group non-specialized supports and specialized services). The proposed evidence-based interventions in the project are The Psychological First Aid training of Trainers, the Narrative Exposure Therapy and the Group-Interpersonal Therapy
All of the three interventions have proven to be highly effective in emergency and developing contexts, and could be scalable with adequate supervision and with on the job training. Interpersonal therapy developed by Klerman, Weissman, and colleagues in the 1970s to treat unipolar, nonpsychotic depression in adults, it is Time-limited psychotherapy, evidence-based, and focuses on improving symptoms and interpersonal functioning.
